Talk by Pierre Ecormier-Nocca on Animated Ecosystems in Computer Graphics, Wednesday 28 April 2021, 11:00 am, online.
Abstract: Ecosystems and virtual worlds play an important part in a growing number of applications, ranging from movies and video games to simulation and museography. However, animals are often an afterthought in this creative process, despite being crucial components of a lively and realistic landscape. As most applications for ecosystems involve either control or creativity, methods designed for their creation need to pay a particular attention to intuitive approaches to let users reach a desired result.
This talk will present various methods to design and control animal herds in virtual worlds. In particular, it will be centered around the creation of a unified pipeline for the authoring of complete ecosystems, including both fauna and flora.
Bio: Pierre Ecormier-Nocca defended his PhD on animated virtual ecosystems in 2020, and is currently working as a PostDoc at Ecole Polytechnique, France. He is about to join Michael Wimmer’s research group at TU Wien as a PostDoc researcher.
