IM and GIS integration is promising to develop effective digital Asset Management Systems (AMS), in particular, if applied through web-based applications, it can facilitate the management of complex systems such as diffused building stocks. The presented research develops a replicable methodological approach aimed at defining a BIM-GIS, web-based AMS for a large Italian university. The main aim is to overcome document-based and fragmented management systems which lead to ineffective decisions making processes and wastes during the operational and maintenance phase. The key step concerning the integration of management data from several heterogeneous sources in an easily accessible, centralized database is deep-in described. The developed AMS enables to overcome issues due to the current fragmented and still document-based management in diffused assets. It provides effective decisions and management processes based on complete and real-time data, stored in a centralized, updated, and implementable database. Consequently, it provides cost reduction and an enhanced user experience. It enables the optimization of space use depending on the actual availability, course timetables, and student number with consequent management costs and resource consumption reduction.
Lavinia Chiara Tagliabue is Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Turin, Italy, part of the BIMGroup, Department of Architecture, Built environment and Construction Engineering, Politecnico di Milano.
She is interested in sustainability at the building and district level, environmental and energy protocols, energy saving, renewable energies, energy retrofit, NZEB, interoperability BIM to BEM (building information modelling to building energy modelling), cognitive buildings, behavioral design, probabilistic models, building management systems (BMS). She is international expert in the project Integration of Blockchain and Digital Twin for Smart Asset Lifecycle Management and invited lecturer at the course Intensive knowledge in BIM and International expert at Jonkoping University Sweden; Conference Chair of the European Conference in Computing in Construction E3 2023/CIBW78.
