“Architecture inachevé” – Gnomonics in the digital
Time : Wednesday 15 May, 11:00 – 12:00
Place: Dissertantenzimmer, Freihaus, 8th floor
Abstract:
Vitruv dedicated the IX book of his treaties to gnomonics, the building of observatories/sundials. He made interesting observations thereby with regard to firmness/sustainability of knowledge in architecture. I will discuss the relevancy of this tradition and relate it to the contemporary role of geometry and materiality in the digital. Thereby I will present our research focus at the department of architecture theory and philosophy of technics ATTP, on a digital Literacy/Gnomonics for treating data, especially in the context of public concerns regarding climate and sustainability issues.
