Integrating Digital and Physical Design Methods

Different media are employed to understand all aspects of a design task in architecture. Rational, quantifiable aspects of a design can be handled well using design and analysis methods from the digital domain, such as parametric modeling, scripting, simulation and many more. Equally important intuitive design methods, such as sketching, tend to be difficult to integrate into the aforementioned digital design processes. This holds particularly true for model making, involving direct and intuitive manual handling of a particular material and resulting in a complex interaction between the designer and the physical properties of the chosen material. We offer concepts and expertise to bridge these gaps between different media and design stages, from the early conceptual work to the digital fabrication processes utilized during manufacturing.
