Geometry is fundamental to both architecture and structure. When you have harmony between the structure and architecture they become inseparable; it is impossible to describe one without also describing the other. It is their common geometry that makes this possible. But the significance of geometry goes much deeper; it is the basis of the invisible but very real geometry of equilibrium. It is through understanding the geometry of equilibrium that one can create the efficient and elegant structures that are needed to reduce the embodied carbon of our buildings.
The presentation will review the geometric interdependencies of architecture and structure and recent research into the use of the geometry of form combined with the geometry of equilibrium to create efficient and elegant architecture.
