Topic Description
The aim of this thesis is to develop new computational methods that eliminate redundant steps and provide simulation support in the design of smart lighting systems. Procedural modeling and geometry optimization methods are developed to automate the placement of lighting objects, sensors, and actuators in architectural spaces based on given functional requirements. Simulation methods are developed to generate and interactively evaluate light scenes for activities that take place in these spaces. These methods are based on space data provided by an existing software environment for building information modeling.
Qualification Profile
A background in computer graphics, technical computer science, or architectural engineering (with specialization in computer science) is required. Backgrounds in procedural modeling, optimization, rendering, building automation, or building information modeling are advantageous.
Supervisor
This topic is supervised by a team of 3 supervisors. Lead supervisor is Georg Suter (Institute of Architectural Sciences). Additional supervisors are Michael Wimmer (Institute of Computer Graphics and Algorithms) and Monika Di Angelo (Institute of Computer Aided Automation).
